Sand pump is used to extract accumulated sand and dredge the bottom of the well.The sand pump is suitable for sand plugs formed after sand production or fracturing in the formation. Sand can be extracted out of the well to restore the well to normal.

Working principle:

Run the sand pump to sand surface position and use the surface tractor hoist as power to actuate the sand pump reciprocating motions by tubing or drill pipes. When the piston moves upward, the travelling valve is closed and certain vacuum is generated in the lower part of the piston. Due to the pressure difference, the sand at the well bottom is forced to enter the sand settling pipe through the inner bore of drill bit with well fluid, while the fluid returns to the well cylinder through the water hole of the upper travelling valve cage of the sand pump.

When the sand settling pipe is filled after multiple swabbings, workers can lift the sand pump to the ground, pour out sand and run the pump again to the well bottom for sand pumping.. If the sand plug is hard, workers can conduct the sand pumping after rotating the string for 2-3min with a hydraulic tong, under the condition of pressurizing to 50KN. During the process of rotating the oil string with a hydraulic tong, the string actuates the hexagonal piston rod of the sand pump to rotate and the hexagonal piston rod actuates the drilling bit to rotate and break the hard sand plug.
